What are specialty contact lenses?
Specialty contact lenses are customized lenses for patients whose eyes cannot be adequately served by conventional, mass-produced contacts. They may be recommended when the cornea has an irregular shape, when a medical condition affects vision, or when the ocular surface cannot comfortably tolerate an ordinary lens.
Unlike a routine contact lens fitting, specialty lens care may require advanced corneal mapping, diagnostic lens evaluation, customized lens parameters, application and removal training, and a series of follow-up visits.
The goal is not simply to place a lens on the eye. It is to develop a lens system that supports the best possible combination of vision, comfort, corneal health, and long-term wear for the individual patient.

What makes specialty lens care different?
A routine contact lens fitting generally works within standard lens designs and measurements. Specialty care is a more individualized process. It may involve advanced imaging, diagnostic lens assessment, custom parameters, hands-on application and removal training, and follow-up visits to evaluate real-world vision, comfort, and ocular health.
More importantly, specialty lens care requires an understanding of the condition behind the prescription. A patient with keratoconus needs monitoring in addition to visual correction.
