A contact lens exam includes everything needed to ensure your contact lenses provide clear vision, a healthy fit, and lasting comfort. In addition to verifying your prescription, we evaluate how the lenses fit and move on your eyes, assess your tear film and eye surface, and determine whether the lens material and design are the best match for your lifestyle and visual needs.

During your fitting, we take measurements of your eyes and evaluate which contact lenses are the best match for your eye shape, prescription, and lifestyle. Once we’ve selected an appropriate lens, you’ll often leave the office wearing a pair of diagnostic (trial) contact lenses.

These trial lenses allow you to experience your contacts in your everyday environment—not just in the exam room. Activities such as computer work, driving, reading, exercising, and varying lighting conditions can all affect how your lenses perform. Wearing the trial lenses during your normal daily routine helps us evaluate whether your vision remains clear and stable, your eyes stay comfortable throughout the day, and the lenses continue to fit properly.

Depending on your prescription, the type of lenses being fit, and your experience with the trial lenses, we may recommend a follow-up visit before finalizing your contact lens prescription.
